The choir arrived in the UK in September and will return to Uganda in early December. Whilst watching a group of hugely talented school children and hearing of the real hardship that their communities endure from day to day, we reflected on how in the UK we often take for granted the availability of clean water, a hot meal every day and of course schooling. Beyond the essentials of life, like food and water, the young Ugandan children recognised that a good education was essential if they were ever going to break the cycle of depravation that they find themselves in.
Throughout the day on Tuesday 7th November 2017, all year 7 students participated in either drumming, singing, bead-making or dancing workshops, whilst the choir dazzled us with an energetic evening performance.
The choir will definitely be back next year and will hopefully become an annual event here at Phoenix.
