Money for the play area was raised by asking companies for donations and holding events for the school community including a sponsored run by the students and raffles for parents.
Parcel company DPD, housing association The Riverside Group and the Rogers family who have strong connections with Phoenix all made significant donations towards the cost of the £24,000 play area.
The play area will benefit children with special educational needs and disabilities and features a soft tarmac area allowing greater access to sports and exercise, a basketball post and sits alongside a covered seating area and a garden which will be used for therapeutic work.
Mike Smith, headteacher at Phoenix Collegiate said: “I have been impressed by how well our whole community including parents and carers, ex-students and local businesses have come together to ensure our students have the facilities they deserve and would like to thank them all personally and on behalf of the students, staff and governors at Phoenix for their recent contributions.
"The generous support of individuals and local companies like them is what makes Phoenix unique. We are continually inspired by the dedication and generosity of individuals and businesses who provide us with the support we need to deliver outstanding learning every day. Thank you again for your generous donations."
