Homework is an important part of education at Phoenix Collegiate. Homework timetables will shortly be available for students and parents to download at the bottom of this page.
We aim for homework to:
- support students' learning;
- be challenging;
- enhance and support students experience in lessons;
- prepare students for future learning activities.
What to expect
As students progress from year 7 onwards, they should expect to have increasing amounts of homework from each subject.
The amount of homework set for each subject will vary depending upon the number of lessons allocated each week.
Key Stage 3
|Key Stage 4|
English, Maths & Science
|1 task per week||2 tasks per week|
1 task per fortnight
|1 task per week|
In Key Stage 5 students should complete one hour of private study for every hour in class. This will include 2 tasks a week per subject studied that should range from 60-90 minutes to complete.
At Phoenix, we want to support our students to respect deadlines, organise their homework and avoid stress.
Teachers will set homework a reasonable amount of time before the deadline to allow an organised approach.
Every student receives a student planner which should be on the desk every lesson and used to log homework.
Homework must be completed and handed in by the deadlines set by teachers. Missed deadlines will receive a sanction unless there's a good reason, explained in advance.
If students are struggling to meet a deadline, they should see their teacher in person before the deadline. Parents can contact the teacher via a note in the planner, by email or phone.
