Important Message about the Cancellation of Summer Exams 2021

Dear Parent/Carer,

You will have heard the announcement that the summer examinations have been cancelled, student grades will be based on teacher assessments and will not involve the use of an algorithm.

I want to reassure you that we are all very aware of the experience that your son or daughter has had. They have missed a significant amount of time last year and although all students returned in September, it has not been a 'normal' school experience and they are now entering a period of remote learning that will be at least six weeks.

The staff did a remarkable job last year ensuring all students got the grades that they deserved and they will do the same again for your child.

The students will be returning to school this year so please reassure them they can still make a difference and that they will be offered every support to do so. In the meantime, can you please remind your son/daughter of the importance for every student to continue engaging with remote learning on MS Teams.

For Year 11 and 13 students scheduled to undertake mock examinations at the end of this term, obviously with the national lockdown we will be looking to reschedule and more information will be given out as soon as we are able.

For those students following vocational courses, including year 10 and 12, we have been told that arrangements will be put in place to make sure learners are not disadvantaged this year.

We will be receiving further details from the DfE over the coming weeks and will keep you informed of developments as they happen.

Can I take this opportunity to thank you for your support and ask that you continue to work in partnership with us in ensuring that your son/daughter achieves their best possible outcomes.

Following updated guidance from the DfE on 5th January, and given the high levels of Covid 19 circulating in the local area, we have decided that it would not be safe or fair to students and their families to ask them to come into school to complete the vocational examinations scheduled for this period. The following examinations will therefore NOT go ahead:

Staff teaching the subjects involved will now direct students to the next stage of their course whilst we wait for the awarding bodies to outline the assessment arrangements they will be putting in place. We have been assured by the awarding bodies that our students will not be disadvantaged by this decision.

Reminder to all parents/carers and students - Remote Live Learning starts from 9.20am today. Timings are as follows:

Students who have the above consoles can access their live lessons through these mediums.

Connect To Teams Using XBOX ONE or Playstation 4

The UK is under lockdown again from the beginning of 2021, and the announcement left very little notice for parents & children to prepare for the change. So what if you need to remote connect to school from home but there are no devices available to you to do this, or you are waiting for the school to provide a tablet or laptop device? Did you ...
