Sixth Form Enrichment

Sixth Form Enrichment

The Phoenix Sixth Form offers a wide range of activities designed to enrich students’ lives, improve their confidence and self-esteem and build their skills portfolio. These activities enable our students to apply successfully for university, further education, apprenticeships and jobs in a wide range of careers.

Activities include paired reading where Sixth Form students support younger students during reading time. Sixth Formers run their own debating society discussing a range of topical and controversial issues. Many choose to become learning ambassadors for younger students by supporting departments and taking the lead in drama productions and school events. Our Sixth Form students raise significant sums of money for various charities every year, such as the Pearl of Africa Choir, Cancer Research and Marie Curie. They take a lead role in providing various sporting activities such as 5-a-side football, badminton, tennis, basketball and volleyball.

The school offers students the chance to complete nationally recognised qualifications such as the Community Sports Leadership Award and Higher Sports Leadership Award which contribute towards UCAS points. Many Sixth Form students take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, whilst others get involved in 'The Challenge' supported by the National Citizen Service.

Other activities include the annual two day Industry Conference designed to offer students the chance to discover more about the world of work. Students are provided with the opportunity to visit universities, careers fairs and the UCAS Higher Education Convention.

All Year 12 students are required to complete a minimum of one week’s work experience. Many complete far more, especially in the field of education and medicine.

Students are given significant support with university applications, leading to a majority of them successfully gaining university places; many at Russell Group institutions.

Those looking for work or apprenticeships at the end of the Sixth Form, are supported through a range of activities and provided with one-to-one support from the Sixth Form Learning Mentor.
